Ian Swenson
Ian was born in Krakow Norway, in the year 2162. His parents, Olaf and Greta, were both technicians working for Starfleet. Their work was classified, so they never said to him, or his brother, what they did for Starfleet. Krakow was south of the capital, Oslo. Krakow started as a fishing village. When it started, scholars can't agree, but records show it working around 550 AD, though that could be wrong. Some records have it working around 5 AD.
Olaf was the older brother, 3 years older then Ian. With their parents off world, working for Starfleet, their maternal grandmother, we always just called her “nana”, took care of the two boys. As the boys got older, sports played a big part of their lives. They played on the same junior football, soccer league. Olaf played for the senior team, while Ian played for the juniors. Soccer wasn't the only sport. Growing up in Norway, there was snow on the ground an average of 8 months a year. Both boys skied. Olaf played ice hockey. Ian took to skiing. Ian liked cross country skiing, and when he got older, he started doing biathlons. As he grew, he got stronger and his body grew more toned. Both boys did well in school, A's mostly, with some B+'s tossed in. When Olaf turned 18, he was drafted by the Norwegian Hockey League, but he turned it down to go to university, he wanted to follow in his parents footsteps. Ian chose another path....on his 18th birthday, he applied to Starfleet Academy. He wanted to be a helmsman. Shorty after applying, Ian was admitted to the Academy.
SERVICE RECORD In his Freshman year, Cadet Swenson arrived at the Academy and immediately, got to work. His major was Flight Control, while his minor was Weapons. His roommate, a Human, Larry Talbot, had some of the same classes he did. They studied together. Talbot liked to socialize, Ian was the opposite. Ian would rather stay in their dorm room and study. Ian spent some time in the gym. Ian met a female cadet, who roomed across the hall from him. Her name was Jennifer. She was studying Communications. They became friends, studying together, testing each other on their assignments. As the semesters pasted, They became more than friends. They became lovers. Ian was usually in the top 5 of his class each semester. Jennifer was in the top 10, and Larry was in the 20% group.
In their Junior year, Ian and Jennifer were still working together. Larry's grades were falling, he had started drinking and his work suffered, He asked for a change of roommates, and it was granted. Soon after, Larry was found dead. Cause of death, alcohol poisoning. Jennifer was given permission to be Ian's new roommate. Ian and Jennifer were both selected to be selected for internship Starship Assignments. Ian in Flight Control, while she was selected for Communications. Ian started with piloting shuttle crafts. While Jennifer started in the Communications Labs. The work, for both of them, was harder then the Academy, but they both did well. Ian worked his way to some time on the bridge, piloting the ship, while Jennifer got the comms station. After 3 weeks, they returned to the Academy, the envy of their friends. The end of the semester, they were both in the top 10 of their class. Sophomore year was harder. Training was hard, the tests were harder, the instructors less forgiving. A little mistake, could make the difference between passing and failing, and now, failing meant going home. Jennifer's mood started to change. She started arguing more, over minor things. Ian tried to stay calm and hoped she would go back to her former self. But no luck. It was about halfway through the semester, when she asked for permission to take some leave. She said she wanted to go home. So she did..no notice...no note...no letter. Just gone.

Months passed. Finally he got a message from her. "Ian. Sorry I left while I did. I couldn't handle things anymore...the studies and....my pregnancy, but I couldn't find the words. The baby died....stillborn. I'm sorry. Goodbye." She hung up.
Ian threw himself into his studies. The Academy counselor wanted him him to take a few weeks off. He declined.
At the end of the semester, Ian was awarded the Valedictorian.
