Doctor Agnes Dramova

Agnes was born in a small family living in the colds of Siberia. She has a brother who is 4 years older than her named Marc. Her mother was a dancer, having trained most of her life to become one of the stars of the local troupe, while her father was spending his days showing the points of interest of the region to tourists from other countries and other planets.

She had a mostly uneventful childhood, growing up in a quite loving family. From time to time, she would accompany his father as he led tourists around the area, so she would learn about the local culture and folklore, or with her mother when her troupe would go on a tour somewhere on Earth or Luna. It allowed her to meet many different people from many different species, nurturing quite an interest for all these people who looked so different from her and other Humans, yet often behaved in similar ways.

Growing up, she developed quite an interest for everything medical : she was fascinated to discover the inner workings of the human body during her biology courses at school, and that fascination never left and even expanded to include every other lifeform. And, being quite a social person, she quite naturally decided that she would become a doctor later in life.

Agnes hadn’t planned to join Starfleet at first, and even applied to several medical schools on Earth when she reached the age. But the stories and videos from her brother, who had joined a few years prior to go explore the stars, eventually swayed her. After all, despite all the dangers, Starfleet was the best way to go and meet other lifeforms on a regular basis. And her curiosity about non-humans grew the more she learned about the galaxy at large.

She struggled quite a bit to pass the entrance exam : contrary to her previous schools, the Academy wasn’t going to cut her some slack in some matters because she was quite good at all things biological and medical. Her first year at the Academy was difficult since she had to become a more well-rounded student, rather than a quite specialized one. But, with the help and support of the teachers and staff, as well as her brother, things became easier by the beginning of her second year and she graduated with an honorable mention at the end of the four years of classes.

Quite a lot of emphasis was put on combat during her years at the Academy, as the Romulan War began right as she enrolled. Luckily for her, by the time she graduated, it had concluded by a victory for the Earth alliance. But it left a lasting effect on everyone, she could see how her brother had changed after four years of a grueling conflict, and it also made her very curious about the Romulans, since only radio contact was established between the belligerent to discuss the terms of the Treaty of the Neutral Zone.

Her first couple years of duty were spent mostly on planetary bases, helping research teams study the interactions between local illnesses from various worlds and species and visitors from off-world, as well as working on vaccines or cures, whenever possible. While it made her personal life hell, it’s hard to form any lasting relations when you’re moving around every few months, she still considers it one of the most interesting part of her life, since she was able to meet so many different people and see so many different places.

The first crisis she encountered as a young officer, and would remember all her life, was an outbreak of Rigelian fever on a newly-established Earth colony. Brought by passing space merchants, the illness devastated the population before a ship with a cure could be sent. Agnes, who was on the planet with a small contingent of officers and scientist to do some studies, could do little but provide emotional support and pain relief while people died around her. Her team had hazmat equipment due to their field of work, allowing them to move around the colony in security, but they had no spare for the colonists, nor could their risk letting anyone inside their small compound, even if it looked like the person wasn’t infected.

Shortly after that, in 2165, she was given her first posting on board a ship, the USS Lexington, as medical officer. Dealing with crews that were becoming more diverse by the day, as the alliance between the founding races of the Federation strengthened and said Federation expanded, was both a joy and a challenge for the young doctor. Keeping up to date on the specific needs of the various species constituting a starship crew, as well as the latest in medical research, was a challenge she relished.

Agnes showed her skill as a doctor and as a team leader on numerous occasions, keeping calm and directing nurses and crewmates even in the midst of battle. She was transferred several times, sharing her knowledge and expertise while also continuing to learn from new species as Starfleet expanded fast, following the expansion of the Federation itself.

In 2179, Starfleet Command assigned her as Chief Medical Officer of the USS Venture. She was sent to Oonah Lothma to wait for the return of the USS Venture from some sort of secret mission that she could learn nothing about even through unofficial channels, sparking her curiosity.

Personality & Traits

Easygoing and quite friendly, she is genuinely interested in learning more about the people she meet, especially if they’re from a new species. She is quite the listener, lending an ear to her friends, crewmates and patients. She is also quite curious, and she will sometimes not realize that she’s asking questions that are a bit too invasive of someone’s privacy, as she focus on her quest of medical knowledge.

Agnes has a good bedside manner, usually able to convince even the most rebellious of patient to calm down, although she can also use a quite stern commanding voice when needed. She has her father to thank for that, since he often had to use that voice to herd in some of the tourist oblivious of the dangers of the tundra and the arctic forests.

In private, she can be quite fun, and she loves to party. After all, life is short and should be enjoyed, a doctor, especially one in Starfleet, knows that. But she puts a clear distinction between her duty and off-duty, between what happens in private and what happens in public. Which means that she will be very formal and use proper title and rank when on duty, even with people she’s been friends with for years.

Struggles to conciliate ‘Do no harm’ from her Hippocratic Oath and the reality that Starfleet officers must sometimes hurt or kill in defense of themselves and the Federation.
